DISPEL Institute is the programmatic branch of Demetriou Studio offering internships, residency opportunities, workshops, and events.
DISPEL is Alex Demetriou’s vision for a space that can foster collaboration, original dialogue, and progressive making practices.
DISPEL Institute operates within Alex’s privately owned ceramics facility producing wood fired ceramic sculpture on a scale rarely seen. This space features a 265 cubic ft hybrid gas/wood kiln designed and constructed by master kiln builder Justin Lambert. With kilns large enough to fire 6 ½’ sculpture and the capability to assemble multi-tier work, this facility has produced monolithic sculpture up to 12’ in height. DISPEL is designed to push the boundaries of the ceramic medium and foster the exploration of building techniques necessary for creating large-scale work.
Internship
DISPEL offers a limited number of internships positions to individuals eager to lean the workings of a contemporary ceramics studio dedicated to large-scale sculpture and wood-fired process.
Events
Events at DISPEL can be many things. From workshops to gallery shows and other kinds of programing we are open to hearing from you and exploring how our facility could support your event.
Residency
DISPEL Institute’s resident artist program is focused on providing established makers and rising stars with a unique and experimental opportunity in which they can push the boundaries of scale and material process in their work.
